A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 11 PM Monday. Damaging winds and large hail are possible. A tornado cannot be ruled out.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Severe Thunderstorm Watch tonight, warm temps this week

Two lines of storms are tracking through the region today. The first is moving to the east and the second line is developing early this evening. This secondary line will be the one capable of all forms of severe weather.

Damaging hail will be the primary concern.  Damaging winds cannot be ruled out nor can a brief tornado.  The core of Kansas is under a Slight Risk for severe storms, meaning one or two will become severe.

The instability is not incredibly high and the tongue of moisture to feed these storms is relatively narrow.  The window for any severe storms will also be limited to just after sunset.

After sunset, the threat for severe storms will wane.  After midnight, any storms should be east of the KSN viewing area.

Temperatures will then bounce into the 80s on Tuesday with a few in the upper 70s to the northwest.

A cold front will track through the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

It will not have any moisture to work with since the atmosphere will be too dry.  Temps dial back a few degrees on Wednesday but then warm again on Thursday.

This will be short before another cold front moves through Thursday night into Friday morning. Stronger winds announce the front is coming.

Eastern and especially northeastern Kansas stands a chance of a few showers and storms.  We will need to see how far back southwest into south central Kansas this activity can build Thursday night before our moisture opportunities for this week dwindle.

Frost is a possibility to the northwest Friday morning.  As colder air sinks south over the region this weekend, additional frost is possible early Saturday morning over more of northern and western Kansas.

It will be a comfortably cool weekend before the heat quickly builds back early next week.  This warmth early next week may break records for the Sunflower State with increasingly gusty winds.
