This week there’s action, spies and a complicated love affair: What’s streaming this week.

“Slow Horses”

Jackson Lamb and his weird department of demoted agents from the British domestic intelligence service MI5 are back. Apple TV+ is showing the fourth season of the thriller series “Slow Horses”, based on the novels by Mike Herron. Once again in the lead role: Gary Oldman (“Trumpet, Tinker Tailor Soldier, Spy”) as Lamb, who is notorious not only for his highly idiosyncratic investigative methods, but also for his unkempt and rude demeanor. Kristin Scott Thomas (“Rebecca”) is also back as high-ranking MI5 employee Diana Taverner, as are Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar and Jonathan Pryce. The new season starts with a bang: a bomb explodes and Lamb and his team are determined to get involved in the hunt for the masterminds. A new episode has been airing every Wednesday since September 4th.

“On a beautiful morning”

Sandra has been a widow for five years. Her husband died. Now she is raising her daughter alone. And then there is her father, who is suffering from a serious illness. Sandra is torn between visiting the sick, working and eight-year-old Linn. But one day Clément comes into her life and the two of them plunge into an affair. A good idea? That is what the romantic drama “On a Beautiful Morning” is about, which can be seen in the Arte media library until October 3. In the leading roles: Léa Seydoux (“Dune – Part Two”) and Melvil Poupaud (“A Stroke of Fortune”). Directed by Mia Hansen-Löve (“Everything Comes”).

“Papillon”

The drama “Papillon” was released in cinemas more than 50 years ago – with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman as two prisoners who want to escape from a notorious penal colony in French Guiana. In 2017, the film was remade based on the novels by Henri Charrière. The main roles of the two convicts in the remake are played by Charlie Hunnam (“The Gentlemen”) as Papillon and Rami Malek (“Oppenheimer”) in the role of a counterfeiter who suffers terribly under the extreme prison conditions in the camp. Both have one goal: they want to escape. But that is not only difficult, but also very dangerous. Filming was also a challenge for Hunnam, as he had to lose a lot of weight in order to play the role of Papillon credibly. The action-packed drama by Michael Noer is available in the ZDF Mediathek until September 25th. The film can also be seen on Prime Video, as can the original from 1973.
