BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 29 – Brunei Darussalam’s Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) has organized workshops to strengthen occupational safety and health (OSH) standards in Brunei Darussalam at the Hotel Radisson, Bandar Seri Begawan, today.
The two-day workshop held on October 29 and 30 was part of the ILO expert mission to Brunei Darussalam in supporting the country’s efforts to improve the effectiveness and further strengthen the safety and OSH ecosystem in line with Brunei Vision 2035 in achieving world-class practices in terms of safety in all industries.
Present to officiate the workshop was the Chief Executive Officer of SHENA, Haji Muhsin bin Haji Ahmad. For the first workshop, it was attended by representatives from various stakeholders including government agencies, the private sector and employee representatives. The workshop focused on the preparation of Brunei Darussalam in implementing the commitments under the Promotion Framework Convention for OSH, 2006 (No.187) which was recently ratified.
While the second workshop attended by certain groups such as OSH experts, workplace safety managers and industrial safety officers, discussed OSH qualification systems, the formation of OSH Committees and the establishment of OSH management systems in organizations.
In addition, participants are also provided with tools and frameworks to improve efficiency in safety management as well as deeper knowledge of legal compliance for safety structures in the workplace.
Group discussion sessions as well as in-depth dialogue among participants from the government sector, industry and non-governmental organizations, successfully achieved strategic and practical recommendations that fit Brunei’s specific needs by taking into account best practices and international standards as well as the ILO monitoring framework for further development national OSH program.
The session also overall offered clear strategic guidance for the development of national OSH priorities and programs. The collaboration between SHENA and the ILO continues to support Brunei Darussalam’s journey in harmonizing global standards and symbolizes Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to creating sustainable and safe workplaces through joint efforts between policy makers, industry leaders and safety experts.
