CANBERRA, SEPT 4 – Mobile phones are not linked to brain cancer, according to a study conducted by Australian scientists commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO), reports Xinhua.

Researchers from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) today published the results of a systematic review of the health effects of exposure to radio waves from mobile phones.

The study commissioned by the WHO analyzed more than 5,000 studies conducted between 1994 and 2022 and found that the rate of brain tumors remained stable despite an increase in the use of mobile phones during the same period.

“When the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified radio wave exposure as a possible human carcinogen in 2013, it was largely based on limited evidence from human observational studies.

“This systematic review used a much larger data set than those examined by IARC, including more recent and comprehensive studies. Therefore, we are more confident that exposure to radio waves from this technology is not harmful to human health,” said Ken Karipidis from ARPANSA who led the study, in a media statement.

The study also concluded that there is no link between prolonged cell phone use or frequency of use with cancer. – Named
