HONG KONG, SEPT 6 – Super typhoon Yagi slammed into southern China’s Hainan island today, packing winds of more than 230 kilometers per hour in what is expected to be the strongest storm to hit the region in more than 10 years.

The storm hit China today along the coast of Hainan, a popular holiday destination, and neighboring Guangdong province at 4:20pm local time, the news agency said.
