WESTLAKE, Ohio –
Breaking and entering: Bradley Road
The owner of Bradley Auto on Bradley Road at 1 p.m. on Sept. 2 reported discovering a break-in at the automotive service garage.
One of the garage door windows was kicked in, and the business entered. The only thing missing was a knife.
Westlake detectives learned that a similar business was broken into in Avon near Lear Nagle Road the same night. Westlake and Avon police detectives, using traffic cameras and license plate readers, identified a suspicious vehicle in both areas around the time of the break-ins.
Westlake police officers stopped the suspicious Cadillac SUV on Sept. 3 on Detroit Road at Crocker Road. The 39-year-old driver, who said he was homeless, admitted to the business break-ins, according to a police department press release. Officers recovered a handgun.
Westlake charged the suspect with felony breaking and entering and the man was turned over to Avon police officers in connection with the break-in in their city.
Stolen car: Westchester Parkway
The owner of an Infinity automobile at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 31 discovered the unlocked car was missing.
The owner had accidentally left her purse containing a key fob in the car. The police department entered the car into a police database of stolen vehicles.
OVI: Columbia Road
Officers at midnight on Sept. 1 stopped a Chevrolet Malibu on Columbia Road at Detroit Road after the driver made several lane changes.
The male driver, a 35-year-old Colorado resident, appeared intoxicated. He ran over the curb while stopping.
The driver’s blood alcohol level tested at nearly twice the legal limit during a breath test. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and released to a sober friend.
OVI: Center Ridge Road
A caller at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 reported that a white SUV was driving recklessly in the parking lot of a bar in the 24000 block of Center Ridge Road.
According to the caller, the man was intoxicated and acted “ridiculous” at the bar before leaving.
The driver disappeared before officers arrived, but the same caller 20 minutes later reported that the man was back and circling the parking lot. Officers spotted the SUV weaving and then sitting stationary at a green light before stopping it on Center Ridge Road at Dover Center Road. An officer spotted an open beer can in the center console cup holder.
The driver, a 34-year-old Westlake resident, said he left the bar after a dispute over music playing on the jukebox. He said he returned to the bar to apologize, but instead, he decided to sit in the parking lot and flash his bright lights at the people inside, according to a police statement.
The driver appeared intoxicated and slurred his speech. An officer arrested the man for OVI after administering field sobriety tests. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol level was 2½ times the legal limit. He was also charged with having a prohibited breath alcohol content, which prompted an immediate license suspension. He was later released to a sober friend.
