KOTA KINABALU, SEPT 22 – The National Business Enterprise Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) channeled funding of RM98.9 million to 4,400 informal and micro entrepreneurs in Sabah this year.

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the amount exceeded the target of RM84.5 million.

“The RM98.9 million funding includes RM1.91 million which was channeled to 480 entrepreneurs who do business at Pasar Tamu.

“National TEKUN will continue to be committed to helping informal and micro entrepreneurs in providing financing and entrepreneur development,” he told reporters after inaugurating the Sabah TEKUN Office and the Kota Kinabalu Branch TEKUN Office here today.

Ewon said since its creation in 1998 until now, TEKUN Nasional has channeled business financing to 587,216 entrepreneurs worth RM9.7 billion throughout Malaysia.

“For the state of Sabah, TEKUN Nasional has channeled RM1.1 billion to 64,313 entrepreneurs for the same period through 25 TEKUN Branch offices,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ewon said the opening of the Sabah TEKUN office in a new location is a step to strengthen the position and benefit entrepreneurs throughout Sabah, especially in Kota Kinabalu.

“This is an improvement initiative in service delivery and I am confident TEKUN Nasional will continue to excel in providing its services to the community, especially informal and micro entrepreneurs throughout Malaysia,” he said. – Named
