YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. Elina Avanesyan, a professional tennis player, playing under the flag of Armenia, is full of hope that she will motivate the new generation of tennis players.
“I am grateful to the Tennis Federation of Armenia and the Keron Foundation for their support during this period. The relocation process was quite quick and I am really happy to be in Armenia now.”“Armenpress”Avanesyan said during a meeting with journalists.
The latter also emphasized that one of the main goals of the transfer is the popularization of tennis in Armenia.
“I hope that I will be able to motivate the young generation. I just want to see more Armenian flags in international courts,” he said.
Elina Avanesyan aims to improve her position in the ranking and reach at least the top 10 within the next year.
The Executive Director of the Tennis Federation of Armenia, Gevorg Karamanukyan, considers it a great achievement for Avanesyan to compete under the Armenian flag, which will be followed by her participation in the women’s national team.
“The discussion of Avanesyan’s transfer to Armenia began months ago. And this is the result of cooperation between the Federation and Keron Foundation. From now on, Armenia has its representative among the 50 best female athletes in the world,” said Karamanukyan.
According to Vanane Ararktsyan, executive director of “Keron” Foundation, now is a historic moment for Armenian tennis, because there is an athlete playing under the flag of Armenia among the 50 best in the world. The foundation will continue its commitment by supporting representatives of various fields to make Armenia more popular in the world.
Elina Avanesyan also had a meeting with Artsakh Armenian children, then held a master class with young tennis players.
Avanesyan was born in Pyatigorsk, Russia in 2002. Avanesyan started playing under the flag of Armenia in August 2024.
