KUCHING, SEPT 16 – The Food Basket Development Project in Spaoh, Betong, which is part of the Federal Government’s Food Basket initiative is expected to be completed early next year.
Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, said the project, which is currently 70 per cent complete, will become a collection, processing and packaging center (CPPC) for local residents’ agricultural products.
“This initiative shows RECODA’s commitment to transform Sarawak’s rural areas into an economic force through targeted socio-economic development projects.
“In addition, we are also planning to establish another CPPC in Sungai Baji, Sarikei,” he said in a statement today.
Ismawi said RECODA aims to bring a positive impact to rural areas by improving agricultural infrastructure, therefore, CPPC will play an important role in improving the local economy and food security.
RECODA recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Carus Group, Nex Ecoventure and the Samling Group to establish cooperation.
The collaboration aims to optimize production, manage equipment, oversee the supply chain and improve operational efficiency at CPPC and the Integrated Highland Agriculture Station (IHAS) in Betong, Sarikei and Long Banga.
In addition, the collaboration also focuses on empowering local farmers through knowledge transfer and encouraging the practice of environmentally friendly farming methods. – Named
