BELAIT, SEPT 16 – A company was fined a compound fine of $2,000 by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) for committing the offense of littering in the Kampung Serasa area on September 12.
The fine was issued in accordance with Chapter 12 (1) of the Rampaian Offenses Act 2021. The company was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will cause the case to be brought to court.
If convicted, the company can be fined between $2,000 and $10,000 for a first offense and for a second or subsequent offense can be fined not less than $10,000 and not more than $30,000 and imprisoned for not more than 12 months, or both.
The public, especially companies and owners of commercial premises, are reminded to always keep the environment clean and not litter in public areas.
