WASHINGTON, SEPT 16 – The shooting incident near former President of the United States (US) Donald Trump yesterday is being investigated as “what appears to be an attempted murder,” said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), reported the German News Agency (dpa).

Trump’s campaign team says the Republican presidential candidate is safe after shots were fired ‘close to him’ in Florida. A US Secret Service spokesman also confirmed that Trump was safe after shots were fired at his golf course.

“A suspect was taken into custody by local police, who found an AK-47 rifle with a telescopic sight and a camera in the bushes at the scene,” Palm Beach County sheriff Ric Bradshaw said in a news conference.

The incident comes after Trump was shot in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in July.

Earlier, dpa reported that a US Secret Service spokesperson confirmed that US presidential candidate Donald Trump is safe after reports of shots fired.

“The Secret Service, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a security incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m.,” said spokesman Anthony Guglielmi on the X platform.
