Social conditions: Worth noting with the new agreement is according to the website The Verge how it addresses the concerns that the record company and the artists have had about this with artificial intelligence (AI).

according to the press release released by Tiktok and Universal Music Group (UMG), it says that they “will work together to ensure that AI developments across the music industry will protect human creativity and the economic flow that flows to artists and songwriters.”

“A new chapter in our relationship with Tiktok”, UMG CEO Lucian Grainge calls the new agreement.

It was from February 1 that Universal Music removed all videos related to its artists’ music from the platform. It happened after negotiations on a new agreement broke down. Videos on the app with music from Universal artists thus had their soundtrack removed, while users were also denied the ability to add Universal music to new videos.

Both when the nominations for this year’s Spellemann awards were announced as well as during the award ceremony itself, Universal Music Norway stayed at home in protest against Tiktok.

Drake, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Lana del Rey, Metallica and The Beatles are among the international Universal artists, while Odd Nordstoga, Ingebjørg Bratland, Dagny, Undergrunn and Alessandra are among the Norwegian ones.

It is not yet known when the agreement will come into force. The companies say, according to The Verge, that they are “working quickly” to return artists to the platform.
