BEIJING, OCT 22 – Liu Zhiqiang, former deputy minister of justice, has been dismissed from the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), according to an official statement today.

With the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission launched an investigation against Liu for serious violations of discipline and law.

The investigation found that Liu, who is also a former member of the Ministry of Justice Party group, had abused his power and influence to benefit others, allowing his relatives to receive money in return.

Liu was also found to have used his position to obtain favors for others in business operations, project contracts and job promotions, and received large sums of money and property in return.

The statement stated that Liu’s actions constituted serious duty-related misconduct and that he was suspected of taking bribes.

In accordance with the rules and laws of the party, a decision has been made to expel him from the CPC and confiscate his illegal profits, according to the statement.
