SYDNEY, OCT 20 – Australians will have the chance to meet King Charles III today as he attends an event at St Thomas’ Anglican Church, after the 75-year-old leader arrived in Sydney last Friday.

About hundreds of people gathered around the building to welcome his arrival.

An Australian resident, Lynton Martin, 22, who had traveled nine hours from Melbourne told AFP, “I want to show that we support and welcome the king.”

Last year Martin went to London for Charles’ coronation, which he described as a great event.

Charles also made a brief statement at the New South Wales legislature today, in which he praised the promise and power of representative democracy.

The British monarch also greeted crowds waiting to meet him after he attended a reception to celebrate 200 years of the Legislative Council in Sydney today during a six-day royal tour of Sydney and Canberra. – AFP
