WASHINGTON, SEPT 10 – Actor James Earl Jones died yesterday at his home in Dutchess County, New York at the age of 93, reports United Press International (UPI).
Jones is known for his roles in almost 200 characters, including in films Coming to America and Field of Dreamsbut he is best known for his baritone voice.
He contributed his voice for the character Darth Vader in series Star Wars and Mufasa in both versions The Lion King in 1994 and 2019.
Jones is also the voice announcing “This is CNN” and has appeared in commercials for Bell Atlantic, Verizon and DirecTV.
In 2017, the Tonys presented Jones with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the theater. He also won a Tony Award for his performance in The Great White Hope and Fences.
Other popular characters he has played include villains Thulsa Doom in Conan the BarbarianJack Ryan’s mentor, Greer in the film Tom Clancyas well as Mr. Mertle’s neighbor in The Sandlot.
Jones’ last screen appearance was reprising his role as King Joffer in the sequel Coming 2 America 2021and his final voice appearance is as Darth Vader in series Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022. – Bernama
