VIENTIANE, LAOS, 22 OCT – The Speaker of the National Assembly (MMN), the Honorable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib has held a separate courtesy call and bilateral meeting with the Speaker of Parliament Singapore, His Excellency Seah Kian Peng; The Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, His Highness Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari bin Abdul and the President of the Thai House of Representatives, His Highness Wan Muhamad Noor Matha during the 45th AIPA General Assembly in Vientiane, Laos.
According to a statement from the Councils of Meetings Department, the visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and parliamentary relations and discuss issues of mutual interest at the regional level.
During the meeting with His Highness Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Johari, Yang Berhormat Pehin congratulated him on his appointment as President of AIPA and Malaysia as the host of the AIPA General Assembly for the year 2025.
Yang Berhormat Pehin expressed Brunei Darussalam’s readiness to provide full support and touch the development cooperation of the young generation through initiatives such as the Youth Parliament Program and the Student Exchange Program.
The two sides also discussed the exchange of best practices in improving parliament.
The courtesy visit with the Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore and the President of the Dewan Rakyat of Thailand also discussed efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and collaboration between the parliaments of ASEAN countries.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen diplomatic relations, with a focus on sustainable development, economic cooperation, and social initiatives that can bring benefits to the people of the region.
This courtesy visit and bilateral meeting reflects mutual commitment in strengthening diplomatic relations as well as enhancing the role of parliament in addressing regional challenges through dialogue and close cooperation between ASEAN countries.
