Policy: The announcement on Friday came a day after the Pentagon announced a similar reduction in neighboring Niger.
The US has around a hundred soldiers stationed in Chad as part of its strategy to combat extremism in West Africa.
The Pentagon’s press spokesman, Major General Pat Ryder, says that the US Africa Command is delaying a redeployment of part of the force in Chad.
– This is a temporary measure that forms part of an ongoing assessment of security cooperation. It will resume after the elections in Chad on May 6, Ryder said.
