CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police say thieves broke into several cars in Ohio City and Gordon Square this week, and officers are seeking residents’ help in the case.
Most of the break-ins occurred in the Ohio City neighborhood on Monday, according to Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz, the Cleveland police spokesman.
Authorities released photos of suspects on the Second District Community Relations Committee social media page that show suspects damaged the cars near West 33rd Street and Lorain Avenue. The photos indicate that youths were involved.
On the social media page, a victim stated that her car was broken into at 10 a.m. while parked at Planet Fitness. She said thieves made off with more than $1,000 worth of items.
Diaz said police arrested three youths in a stolen car, and they are investigating whether they are linked to the break-ins.
He said officers are trying to figure out the causes of why juveniles repeatedly commit the same crimes.
“We need to see what resources we can provide for these kids, like counseling and home visits, to prevent them from getting in trouble,” Diaz said. “We must figure out what can we do as a community to help these kids because they need support from family, mentors and from us, the police.”
Anyone with information regarding the break-ins is asked to contact detectives at 216-623-5218.
