NEW DELHI, OCT 2 – A private helicopter crashed in western India today, killing three people, a fire official said.
The helicopter caught fire in a hilly area after crashing on the outskirts of Pune, southeast of the financial hub of Mumbai, at about 6:45 am.
Two pilots and an engineer died in the crash, said chief fire officer Devendra Potphode.
“When we arrived at the scene, we saw that the helicopter had crashed and all its parts were scattered,” he said.
“We were able to remove three victims, and this incident has been reported to the police.”
The helicopter had been hired by the Nationalist Congress Party and was on its way to Mumbai.
Although the cause of the crash has not yet been identified, media reports state that there was thick fog in the area at the time. – AFP
