Two days after the state elections in Thuringia, the state executive board of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) announced the rapid start of talks with all democratic parties represented in the state parliament. “The state executive board unanimously accepts the CDU’s invitation to initial talks“, said a statement from the regional association on Tuesday. The talks will be led by the two BSW chairmen in Thuringia, Katja Wolf and Steffen Schütz.
Before concrete explorations begin, also talks with the SPD and the Left PartyHowever, the BSW state executive committee once again clearly rejected exploratory talks with the AfD.
The result of the state election in Thuringia is seen as a turning point because of the performance of the state association of the AfD around Björn Höcke, which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies as right-wing extremist. According to the preliminary results, the AfD won by a clear margin with 32.8 percent. The CDU was the second strongest party with 23.6 percent. The BSW followed with 15.8 percent, ahead of the Left with 13.1 percent and the SPD with 6.1 percent.
Since all other parties reject coalitions with the AfD, the focus is on forming an alliance between the CDU, BSW and at least one other party. It is not enough for a three-party coalition of CDU, BSW and SPDbut rather for a three-party alliance between the CDU, BSW and the Left Party.
