Touch a Truck in Bay Village was a huge success; kids couldn’t get more excited

The Touch-a-Truck event on Sept. 7 drew a very large crowd, especially parents with their children. The City of Bay Village generously brought out many of the city’s cars, trucks and all kinds of equipment the city uses for both low and high servicing throughout the city.

The highlight of the day, though, was the anticipation of the University Hospitals flight and landing coming to the city soccer field. As the 1 p.m. estimated time was getting closer, the top edge of the soccer field was getting quite crowded.

In the wait-time, some of the Bay Village band members marched through the crowds with their “drumline.”

The definition of a drumline is (according to Google): “A high school drumline is a musical ensemble made up of marching percussionists in grades nine through twelve. Drumline members usually perform as part of a larger marching band, but they may also perform as a separate group for showcases and competitions.”

The band members were marching high and getting heads turning with every step to their extraordinary talents. The crowds clearly enjoyed them.

When the sound of the helicopter began, people were almost running to get on the edge of the soccer field. As the copter landed, the local police officers kept the people back. At the right moment, though, they waved all of the families forward to line up for taking a look both outside and then inside the helicopter.

All were calm in the waiting line, and Moms and Dads were smiling as they brought the children back.

A successful day the City of Bay Village clearly had. But one can imagine next year will be just as big, if not bigger. After all, all of the children will be a year older and will want to see it all over again.
