CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 24-year-old man died Thursday in a car crash on Ohio 2 in Willoughby, according to police.

There were two accidents on the same road just minutes apart, officials said. The first crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Ohio 2 west, just east of the Vine Street exit. Traffic slowed down as safety units responded to the crash, police said.

Four minutes later, a 24-year-old man who drove a flatbed tow truck rear-ended a plumbing truck.

The plumbing truck struck another vehicle. The driver of the tow truck then struck a second vehicle, police said.

Willoughby police officers requested firefighters to the scene to assist the tow-truck driver. Firefighters extricated the man from the cab of the tow truck. Paramedics transported him to University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center, where he later died.

The man’s identity has not been released. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to the Lake County coroner’s office.

The Lake County Crash Investigation Unit will handle the case.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed to crash to contact detectives at 440-951-1234.
