Less than three months after severe storms in Switzerland, the important A13 motorway, which was partially destroyed, has been completely repaired. The San Bernardino route in the canton of Graubünden is also used by travelers from Germany heading towards Italy or vice versa. The Federal Roads Office reopened traffic at 5 a.m. on Tuesday with two lanes in each direction.

A 200-meter-long section of the important north-south connection through the Alps was washed away on June 5. This was preceded by heavy rain in the Misox Valley, during which the Moesa River burst its banks and washed away the road. After initial repairs, one lane in each direction was able to be put back into operation two weeks later.

Traffic is now running again in two lanes heading north and south. The banks of the Moesa have been reinforced as part of the repair work, the Federal Office announced.
