After the knife attack that left three people dead in Hohentengen am Hochrhein, the perpetrator will be placed in a psychiatric hospital permanently. The 19-year-old was not guilty of mental illness at the time of the crime at the end of March, ruled the large youth chamber of the regional court in Waldshut-Tiengen.

The court found it proven that the German-Italian had attacked and killed his parents and his 34-year-old brother with a knife. The defendant’s sister suffered serious, but not life-threatening, stab wounds and cuts in the attack. The man was charged in the so-called security proceedings with three counts of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter with dangerous bodily harm.

The 19-year-old essentially admitted the crime and how it happened at the beginning of last week. The violent crime in the far south of Germany caused a stir across the country a good five months ago. The verdict is not yet final. An appeal can be lodged within a week.
