WASHINGTON, SEPT 13 – Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, who is also the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, announced yesterday that he will not participate in another presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s candidate.

In a post on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump claimed that he won the debate hosted by ABC News in Philadelphia on Tuesday night and accused Harris of refusing to accept a debate invitation from Fox News, NBC News and CBS News.

In a broadcast on X, Harris said yesterday that “we owe it to the voters to have another debate.”

The Harris campaign also claimed victory in the first debate between the two.

“Vice President Harris dominates the stage on every issue that matters to the American people,” according to a statement released earlier.

Survey CNN among debate watchers, 63 percent agreed that Harris gave a better performance on stage in Philadelphia.

According to Fox News12 voters on the panel thought Harris won the debate, while five others thought Trump was the winner.

Many noted that Trump did not know how to attack his new opponent in the presidential election.

An article New York Times noted that after the debate, many Democratic strategists and officials cheered Harris’ performance, while Republicans complained about the moderator’s ‘questioning tone’ and acknowledged Trump missed an opportunity to launch a more focused attack.

“Trump did little to convince voters that he was up to the task and at times seemed very angry and frustrated,” said Darrell West, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, to Xinhua.

Meanwhile, political science professor at Saint Anselm College, Christopher Galdieri said that Harris appeared a little nervous at first, but then appeared more confident.

“He argued that Trump represents the past and this election is an opportunity to move forward,” he said.

The debate comes as a surprise, less than two months after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential election after a disappointing debate performance and Harris announced his intention to run for president.
