Bundesliga football club Turbine Potsdam has struggled to reach the round of 16 in the DFB Cup against regional league club Viktoria Berlin. The Brandenburg team won 2-0 (1-0) at the Lichterfelde Stadium.
The Israeli Irena Kuznezov gave Turbine an early lead in the 3rd minute after a free kick and some confusion in the penalty area. But the ambitious regional league team was not at all unsettled by this and was the better team in the first half. Two of the hosts’ goals were disallowed due to offside positions.
Strength diminishes at high temperatures
The Bundesliga team improved in the second half. With temperatures over 30 degrees, Viktoria increasingly lacked energy. The 2-0 goal also came from a set piece. Mia Schmid’s header landed the ball in the goal after a corner (62nd minute).
After their direct promotion, the Brandenburg team started the league last weekend with a narrow 0:2 defeat against champions Bayern Munich. Viktoria won their first two games in the Regionalliga Nordost and want to achieve their desired promotion to the second division this season.
