Two men were arrested for extortion, impersonating the police

KOTA TINGGI, 9 OCT – Police arrested two local men suspected of being involved in a case of extortion and impersonating policemen in Bandar Tenggara, Johor, yesterday.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Supt Yusof Othman said his side received a report from a 38-year-old foreign man who lost RM1,300 in cash as a result of the activity at about 11.55pm last Monday.

He said acting on information, a police team from Bandar Tenggara Police Station arrested the two 20-year-old men in Bandar Tenggara at about 12.30 midnight yesterday.

“We have also seized a Honda Wave 125 type motorcycle believed to be used by them to commit the crime involved. The preliminary investigation found that the two of them were believed to be involved in a robbery that targeted foreigners on Jalan Pahlawan last September 22,” he said in a statement today.

Yusof said the result of the urine test found that the two individuals were drug negative.

“Both of them were allowed to be remanded for four days from yesterday until this Friday by the Kota Tinggi Magistrate and the case was investigated under Section 384 and Section 170 of the Penal Code,” he said. – Named
