UK general £22 billion for carbon storage projects

LONDON, 4 OCT – The United Kingdom (UK) government today announced an investment of nearly £22 billion in projects to capture and store carbon emissions produced by industry and energy production.

The funds will be used for ‘carbon capture clusters’ in Merseyside, north-west England, and Teesside, north-east England.

The new Labor government also launched a state-owned public body, Great British Energy, to stimulate investment in domestic renewable energy projects and accelerate the transition to clean energy.

They hope the new projects will create 4,000 jobs and support another 50,000 over the next 25 years and help the UK meet its climate targets by reducing 8.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the projects were ‘reviving our industrial estates by investing in the industry of the future.’
