ATHENS, OCT 8 – United Nations (UN) experts yesterday called for urgent action to end the cycle of violence and demand accountability after a year of Israel-Hamas conflict, the Agency reported. Anatolia.

The expert in a statement informed that the last year has witnessed the increase of a terrible crisis in human suffering with a severe impact on the people of Palestine, the people of Israel and the entire Middle East region.

“Serious violations of international law such as murder, targeting civilian objects, disproportionate and indiscriminate attacks, starvation, forced displacement, arbitrary expulsion, sexual violence, torture and insults to life and dignity, including disrespect for corpses by the Israeli army since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023 is a war crime and possibly a crime against humanity,” the expert said.

Drawing attention to the historical and political background of October 7, the expert said “obscured by false narratives and years of discrimination, racial segregation and/or apartheid committed against the Palestinian people, as recognized by the International Court of Justice on July 19.”

According to them, the conflict risks leading to the erasure of the Palestinian presence in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as the endless reality of precarious conditions and great suffering for both Palestinians and Israelis.

They also urged the international community to ensure the cessation of arms transfers by countries and companies to Israel “to avoid complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
