United reduced the pressure on Ten Hag

LONDON, OCT 20- Manchester United eased the pressure on Erik ten Hag as they bounced back to beat Brentford 2-1.

Ten Hag hit out at ‘fairy tales and nonsense’ about United’s future on Friday as he was threatened with the sack.

But the 54-year-old coach is said to be fighting to save his job after United’s worst start to a top-flight season since 1989-90.

Ten Hag must have been on the brink of dismissal after Brentford took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Ethan Pinnock headed home from a corner.

But Alejandro Garnacho started United’s comeback in the 47th minute when the Argentine received Marcus Rashford’s pass with a superb volley towards goal.

Rasmus Hojlund then grabbed the decisive second goal in the 62nd minute, picking up Bruno Fernandes’ clever pass and curling a beautiful finish past Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

“We didn’t score many goals, we weren’t clinical enough, but today we scored two great goals,” said Ten Hag.

“When you score goals, you add confidence. It was just a win, and we have to keep building,” he added.

United currently sit 10th in the table ahead of an interesting week, featuring a Europa League trip to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and also a trip to West Ham. – AFP
