Former Republican US Vice President Dick Cheney wants to support the Democratic candidate in the November election Kamala Harris give his vote – and not his party colleague Donald Trump.

“As citizens, each of us has a duty to put the country above partisanship and defend our Constitution. That is why I will cast my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”said the 83-year-old on Friday (local time).

“There has never been a person in the nation’s 248-year history who has been a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”Cheney continued.

Cheney was the highly controversial number two under US President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009. He was considered a hardliner and one of the central figures behind the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. As early as 2022, he had described Trump as the greatest threat to the USA.

Cheney, known for his arch-conservative stance, referred in his renewed criticism primarily to Trump’s role in Storming of the US Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021when Joe Biden’s election victory was to be officially confirmed there. Dick and Liz Cheney join a number of Republican politicians who see Republican presidential candidate Trump as a threat to democracy and are therefore refusing to support him.
