Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in sugar productivity

HANOI, OCT 17 – Vietnam’s sugar industry has led the Southeast Asian region in sugar productivity for the first time, according to a report Vietnam News who quoted the Vietnam Sugar Cane and Sugar Association today.

According to the association, Vietnam’s sugar yield for the 2023-24 crop reached 6.79 tons per hectare, higher than other major ASEAN producers such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Through cooperation programs of technology transfer and international funding, several sugar companies have started to try new Industry 4.0 solutions from countries such as the United States and Australia to digitize the management of sugar factories.

Sugar production across the country has increased for four consecutive years, with sugarcane yields increasing by 166 percent and sugar production by 161 percent in the 2023-24 crop compared to the previous crop.

Nguyen Van Loc, chairman of the association, said the area of ​​sugarcane harvesting and the country’s sugar production for the 2024-25 crop is expected to continue to increase compared to the previous crop. – Xinhua
