Where to learn about Wichita's latest downtown parking proposals

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Next month, the Wichita City Council will again discuss downtown parking and how much the public should pay for it. There was a large public outcry over the city’s previous plan.

So, the mayor asked city staff to return in November with some options.

On Friday, the city posted that it has options ready to show the public next week. It is holding two public meetings:

  • Monday, Oct. 28, 5:30-8 p.m. at the Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. Second Street
  • Thursday, Nov. 7, 6 p.m. at the Kansas Leadership Center, 325 E. Douglas

After the public meetings, city staff will present the proposals at an evening meeting of the Wichita City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.

These are some of the previous options discussed:

  • Continue the current parking agreements with rate adjustments
  • Make the first hour of parking free, then charge 75 cents an hour
  • Discounted daily rates for employees
  • Discounted parking passes

KSN News will report on the options after they are made public.
