Why federal, state civil services must collaborate — Head of Service

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Federal and State Civil Services to foster a more innovative, responsive, and citizen-centered Civil Service.

She noted that both arms of the service must work as a team and share their successes to achieve the common goal of national development.

Speaking during the maiden virtual interactive meeting with the Heads of Civil Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Walson-Jack highlighted the wealth of diverse and talented individuals within the civil service, whose collective experiences, knowledge, and expertise serve as valuable assets.

“We are privileged to be part of a civil service composed of individuals with rich experiences. This diversity is an asset to the collective mission of delivering a more efficient and impactful civil service,” she said.

Walson-Jack further explained that the virtual meeting provided a platform to exchange ideas and receive invaluable input aimed at enhancing services provided to Nigerians.

She assured the state officials of her commitment to leveraging her skills and experience to transform the civil service into a world-class institution driving national development.

She added, “The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation will strengthen communication lines to ensure mutual benefits. We want to share our successes with you, and we are eager to learn from the innovations happening at the state level.”

Walson-Jack also expressed her determination to build on the achievements of her predecessors while pursuing new frontiers in the ongoing effort to create a more effective civil service that drives the Nigeria of our dreams.

She urged the state Heads of Service to support and collaborate with her in this endeavour.

Recognising the civil service as the engine of governance, Walson-Jack commended the dedication of state Heads of Service for upholding the values of accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, loyalty, and efficiency within the civil service.

She also highlighted the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025, which is anchored on six key pillars and enablers aimed at transforming the service.

Walson-Jack encouraged states yet to adopt the FCSSIP initiative to embrace and implement the vision in their respective states.

During the feedback session, Heads of Service from several states, including Lagos, Benue, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Oyo, Ogun, Ebonyi, and Abia, praised Walson-Jack for her foresight in convening the meeting.

They stressed the importance of collaboration between the Federal and State Civil Services to share knowledge and address challenges encountered in their line of duty.
