Potsdam/Frankfurt (Oder) – Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) will be in Frankfurt (Oder) on Saturday (2 p.m.) to find out about the current flood situation. Together with Mayor René Wilke (independent), he will visit a sandbag distribution station and look at a protective wall that has been installed on the riverside promenade, as the State Chancellery in Potsdam announced. A meeting with representatives of the crisis team from Frankfurt and the neighboring town of Slubice and the Lubusz Voivodeship is also planned on the city bridge.
The situation in Frankfurt (Oder) is expected to worsen in the coming week. According to the current forecast, the second highest alarm level is expected at the Frankfurt (Oder) gauge on Monday and alarm level 3 on Tuesday, according to the State Chancellery. Properties, streets and cellars could then be flooded. Dyke runners will also be deployed to check the protective systems. So far, alarm level 1 has been declared for Frankfurt (Oder), Eisenhüttenstadt and Ratzdorf.
