The VfL Wolfsburg women’s soccer team has one foot in the group phase of the Champions League. In the first of two qualifying matches against AC Florence, the German cup winners won 7-0 (4-0) in Italy. The return match will take place on September 25 in Wolfsburg.
The goals were scored by Marina Hegering (6th, 25th), Alexandra Popp (38th, 53rd, 57th), Jule Brand (44th) and Vivien Endemann (83rd). Hegering twice gave Wolfsburg a 2-0 lead with a header, Popp completed her hat trick with two goals within four minutes shortly after the break.
VfL won the Champions League in 2013 and 2014 and was in the final against FC Barcelona (2:3) in 2023. Last year, however, coach Tommy Stroot’s team failed in the two playoff games against Paris FC.
