Woman suspects Airbnb renters made drugs in her home: South Euclid Police Blotter

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio

Burglary: Homestead Road

A woman said she returned to her home around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 28 and discovered that it had been burglarized while she was away.

Responding officers walked through the home with the woman to make sure nobody was in the house. They found a patio chair outside that was below an open window and suspected that was the point of entry.

Several areas of the home were in disarray and the woman reported that an X-Box, laptop computer, TV and close $1,000 cash was missing. She said nobody other than her daughter had a key to the home and that her daughter was out of the country.

No suspects were identified.

Criminal trespass: Cedar Road

The Planet Fitness staff reported Sept. 28 that a man was smoking marijuana in the lobby and was ignoring them when they asked him to leave.

When officers arrived, the Cleveland man, 22, was working out and would not acknowledge them. He mumbled incoherently to himself when he was told he needed to leave.

He was subsequently arrested for trespassing and returned to the station, where he continued to act abnormally and was found in possession of 58 grams of marijuana.

He was banned from Planet Fitness due to the incident and a previous incident at the Garfield Heights location of the business.

Theft: Okalona Road

A man reported at 12:47 a.m. Sept. 30 that a gun was stolen from him while he and the suspect were in his vehicle together.

He said that the man had contacted him earlier to pick him up so that they could hang out and smoke. When he stopped in the roadway to drop off the man at his desired location, he said that he took his gun from the vehicle and said it now belonged to him. He then exited the vehicle and began walking.

The man followed him onto Cedar Road, where he saw a University Heights police officer are reported the incident. The two however were unable to locate the suspect.

Officers tried unsuccessfully to contact the suspect and entered the gun as stolen.

Traffic stop: Warrensville Center Road

A Cleveland girl, 16, was stopped for illegally riding a dirt bike in the roadway Sept. 24.

She was subsequently turned over to her relatives and will be charged in juvenile court for receiving stolen property as the dirt bike was found to have been reported as stolen out of West Virginia four years ago.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

A Walmart employee was arrested for theft at the store Sept. 29.

The Cleveland woman, 18, was found to have stolen $400 from a cash register over four days.

Stolen vehicle: Mayfield Road

A vehicle was stolen from the Marc’s parking lot around 3 p.m. Sept. 24 after its owner left it unlocked and running while he went into the store to buy honey.

Witnesses said they saw two people enter the vehicle and said it almost struck another car when speeding out of the parking lot.

The vehicle was recovered that night in Garfield Heights after officers from that city made a traffic stop. The driver, a 50-year-old Cleveland man, was charged with receiving stolen property.

Theft: Avondale Road

An Akron woman said Sept. 26 that a table was missing from her home in the city after it had been rented through Airbnb.

She also found a tacky black substance in different areas in the kitchen and bathroom.

She said that a woman rented the home for 28 days, but she suspected that her son had been staying there. She also found vinegar and baking soda, leading her to suspect that drugs were being made in the home.

She estimated the value of the table at $300 and said she had already filed a claim with Airbnb for the theft and damages.
