War and conflicts: The operation is described as complex, with contributions from both the US authorities, Kuwait and Kurdish militia.

Among the 22, there were eleven Americans, five of them minors. In addition, six Canadians, four Dutch and one Finnish citizen were taken out. Of these, eight were children.

– This is the largest single repatriation of US citizens from north-eastern Syria to date, says Foreign Minister Antony Blinken in a statement.

He adds that the only lasting solution is for the various countries that have citizens in the camps to bring them home and ensure that they are reintegrated into society, possibly punished for what they have done.
