Junior Adamu was a popular onlooker on Saturday. Especially among the Freiburg football fans, who invited their double-pack striker to the podium in front of the fans’ stands after Saturday’s 2:1 win against VfL Bochum. “It’s so beautiful, it couldn’t be more beautiful, it’s like a dream,” said the celebrated hero about the affection of the supporters.

“I was happy to celebrate close to the fans – goosebumps, I feel like I’m at home,” said the seven-time Austrian international, describing his feelings after his first two Bundesliga goals in his 18th first division game. “It was incredibly easy on the pitch.”

“Being 1-0 down was really shit”

And the 23-year-old did not forget to mention the less outstanding things in Freiburg’s game, which had started somewhat sluggishly before the break. “Being 1-0 down was really shit,” he commented on Bochum’s opening goal by Myron Boadu (45th minute).

The fact that the South Baden team won 2-1 in the end, and now have six points after three games, was also down to an improvement in performance in the second half for Adamu. “When we came out, the will was there,” he said – and the accuracy, especially on his part. “I had the will to score the goal,” said Adamu, who is generally a determined player.

Schuster: “He is very hardworking”

The attacker, who was brought in from RB Salzburg in the summer of 2023 and has the experience of 14 Champions League appearances against Bochum, worked an enormous amount both forwards and backwards, and if his coach is to be believed, he does the same in training. “He is very hard-working and gives the impression that he never gets tired,” praised Julian Schuster. The coach particularly highlighted Adamus’ backward movement (“works incredibly hard defensively”).

But the celebrated player prefers to stay in the opponent’s zone, as he proved with his two goals in the 58th and 61st minutes. “It’s always nice to score goals,” said Adamu, promising more in the upcoming game in Heidenheim: “I will do my best to make sure we win.” Nice words from the new crowd favorite, which should be particularly well received by the fans.
