KOTA KINABALU, 1 OCT – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor wants Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to continue to commit to creating a higher education environment capable of becoming a center of excellence and producing competitive and innovative graduates to meet the needs of a skilled workforce.
Hajiji who is also Pro Chancellor of UMS said this includes strengthening cooperation with industry players in research, development, commercialization and innovation activities.
He said the Sabah government always helps UMS towards the progress and improvement of the national higher education level in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap development plan which also emphasizes the development of human capital, in addition to the industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors as the main core in empowering the state’s economy.
“The government and the people of Sabah are very proud of the current achievements of UMS which has helped generate development transformation in various aspects, in addition to being a reference center especially in Sabah,” he said in a speech at the Pledge and Aku Manji Ceremony in conjunction with the 30th Session 2024/2025 Week of Suai Mesra UMS in Kota Kinabalu, today.
A total of 4,545 students continue their studies at UMS covering 14 faculties in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Labuan for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Meanwhile, Hajiji said the Sabah government has always made the development of human capital a priority because only good education can change the quality of life of the people thus contributing to the success and excellence of the country, especially Sabah. – Named
