Sport: The Cavaliers were down by 18 points at most, but eventually won 106-94 and will face the top-ranked Boston Celtics in the quarterfinals.
Mitchell scored 17 of his points in the 3rd period. He also delivered nine rebounds and five assists. He did so two days after he scored 50 points in the loss that forced a seventh game.
The Cavaliers won all four of their home games against the Magic.
– We can and must be better than this. I hate being that guy. “It’s a big win, but we have to step up if we’re going to beat Boston,” Mitchell said.
– This was big for us as a group, but we don’t have time to celebrate.
The first game is played in Boston on Tuesday.
In the other quarterfinals, the Minnesota Timberwolves already lead 1-0 over the defending champion Denver Nuggets, while the Oklahoma City Thunder meet the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks play against the Indiana Pacers.
