Policy: Three of the party’s elected representatives have sent a representative proposal to the Storting about the proposal. They ask the government to make a plan for the complete phasing out of peat in planting soil by 2030, write Television 2.

Peat comes from bogs, and extraction leads to significant greenhouse gas emissions.

– The emissions from peat extraction in Norway correspond to the emissions from 48,000 passenger cars annually, says MDG’s Une Bastholm to the channel.

Climate and Environment Minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Ap) says that the government will not decide on a ban now, but rather come up with its answers in a new action plan for nature in the autumn.

The Plantasjen retail chain sells around 3.5 million sacks of potting soil annually in Norway, of which 95 per cent contains peat.
