Medical examiner releases cause of Rich Homie Quan's death

(KTLA) – Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan’s death at the age of 34 was due to a drug overdose involving fentanyl, according to reports.

As detailed by Newsweek and other reports, Quan — born Dequantes Lamar — died on Sept. 5, news that shocked many in the hip-hop community.

At the time, some suspected Quan died of a drug overdose, a prediction that turned out to be accurate.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner determined that at the time of his death, Quan tested positive for fentanyl, alprazolam (also known as Xanax), and promethazine and codeine, which are often found together in prescription cough syrups that go by names like lean and purple drank.

The “Flex (Ooh, ooh, ooh)” hitmaker also had THC in his system, though that was not what killed him.

Quan joins multiple rappers and other musicians felled by fentanyl in recent years, including Prince, Tom Petty, Mac Miller and Lil Peep.
