A global event, Met Gala It has its codes and a wardrobe theme, from which prestigious designers draw inspiration to make unique outfits, often disproportionate and extravagant. After a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld last year, this year’s theme is “The garden of time”inspired by the eponymous story by the English writer JG Ballard, published in 1962 that portrays the ephemeral nature of beauty.

BLACKPINK’s lead singer and rapper made a stunning entrance on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In a nod to this year’s dress code, the music star gave a unique performance wearing a flowy cobalt blue minidress to represent the seaone of three areas of the exhibition that focuses on the wonders of the natural world.

Jennie’s ensemble was made from a vibrant ruched fabric that wrapped around her body, creating a cropped silhouette. The top part of her transformed into a cape that fell to the ground becoming a tail. For added sparkle, she wore a pearl-embellished belt and completed her look with matching blue heels.

Billboard. Magazine ellemeanwhile, indicated: “Jennie just came out wearing a blue Alaïa minidress with a cutout on the torso, in compliance with the dress code of the ‘The Garden of Time’ gala.”

For a shower of Internet users and publications, Tayla represented the land, Jennie the sea and Ariana the air.

Jennie, an ambassador for Calvin Klein and Chanel, made her debut on the red carpet at the Met Gala in 2023, when she wore a vintage Chanel dress in tribute to the fashion house’s late creative director, Karl Lagerfeld.

The theme is parallel to that of the exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”which focuses on the most fragile pieces in the Costume Institute’s vast collection.

The exhibition, which will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2, features garments so delicate that they cannot be displayed on mannequins. The Costume Institute funds its work, including exhibitions and acquisitions, with the blockbuster Met Gala.
