Probably a bit of a shortage of Norwegian eggs for the rest of the year

Several grocery stores are occasionally empty of eggs. Nortura, which has received a lot of criticism for the egg shortage, says that the grocery stores themselves can import eggs and warns that the shortage could last the rest of the year. Photo: Cornelius Poppe / NTB

Economy and business: The reason is that too few eggs are produced in Norway, according to the food producer.

– Norway needs more egg producers. In an attempt to recruit more people, Nortura has increased the price we pay for the eggs of our producers. We hope that this leads to more people establishing themselves, and that egg production increases and deliveries from Nortura increase, says communications advisor Matilda Aronsson at Nortura in a press release.

Nortura is the market regulator for eggs. In January, they promised Agriculture Minister Geir Pollestad (Sp) that there would be enough eggs for Easter, which was not the case.

The food producer points out that they already requested an opening for the import of eggs last year. This means that all players who want to can import eggs – this also includes grocery stores.
