Policy: – President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has handed the Duma a proposal related to Mikhail Vladimirovich Misjustin’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister, stated the Duma’s speaker Vyacheslav Volodin early Friday morning.

He warns that the elected representatives in the Russian lower house will vote on Putin’s proposal later on Friday. It is considered almost certain that Misjustin will be allowed to continue as Prime Minister, as there is hardly any opposition in the National Assembly.

Russian law states that the country’s government must resign before the inauguration of the country’s president after a presidential election. Putin was named by the country’s election authorities as the winner of the presidential election in March and was sworn in for a new six-year term on Tuesday.

58-year-old Misjustin is a technocrat who was appointed by Putin as prime minister in January 2020 after Dmitry Medvedev. Misjustin previously headed that country’s federal tax agency, where he was credited with more than doubling tax revenue during the decade he led the agency.
