RTL has admitted to a mistake in a question in Günther Jauch’s quiz show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”. This means that one candidate has a second chance to win. She failed to answer the question in question in the show broadcast on Tuesday and fell to the prize level of 500 euros. The prize was 32,000 euros.

The question was: “Who did Germans google more often in the category “International Personalities” in 2023 than US pop star Taylor Swift?” There were four names to choose from: A) Margot Robbie, B) Queen Camilla, C) Elon Musk and D) Harry Kane.

With Elon Musk into the abyss

Candidate Laura Harbig – herself a big Taylor Swift fan – thought about it for a while and reported that she had a “very strong gut feeling” about Elon Musk. She thought that the entrepreneur’s takeover of the Twitter platform (now X) could have played a role in Germans’ search behavior. She also heard in a podcast that Musk was one of the most googled personalities. “The problem is: That was a Swedish podcast,” Harbig added. Nevertheless, the decision stood: the candidate also guessed Elon Musk.

Jauch then told her that this was unfortunately wrong. According to Jauch, Harry Kane would have been the right choice. “The move to FC Bayern Munich was just so interesting for people,” explained the presenter, who knows a lot about football. “I’m sorry,” said Jauch. Shortly afterwards, Harbig vacated the candidate’s chair.

Candidate should be given a new chance

The problem, according to RTL, is that none of the four possible answers would have been correct in this case. “After intensive examination,” it was determined that Taylor Swift was the most googled “international personality” in 2023 and no one else. “We apologize for the error,” the broadcaster said.

Laura Harbig is now to be given a second chance. Since it was a special – the “3 million euro week” – she will be allowed to compete again in the next special edition of this kind. It is still unclear when exactly that will be.
