Shipping accident: Boat explodes on Werlsee

A pleasure boat exploded on the Werlsee near Grünheide (Oder-Spree). As a result, another boat caught fire. According to initial police reports, three people were injured. Considerable material damage was caused. A spokesman for the police situation center in Potsdam was initially unable to provide any further details.

The RBB reported, citing the police, that a cabin boat exploded shortly after setting off. A young skipper was thrown into the water by the pressure wave, but was able to save his three passengers. The burning boat then headed towards a houseboat without a driver and set it on fire.

According to RBB, an 87-year-old man suffered severe burns in the accident and was taken to the Berlin Accident Hospital (UKB). His companions, an 84-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman, also suffered burns.
