War and conflicts: In the statement, which was announced late on Wednesday evening, it appears that the EU’s heads of state and government “underline the need to quickly supply Ukraine with air defense assistance and for acceleration and more intensity in the deliveries of all necessary military assistance, including artillery ammunition and rockets”.
EU President Charles Michel type in X that the EU’s heads of state and government at the summit on Wednesday evening discussed the latest developments in Ukraine with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj via video link.
– We strongly condemn Russia’s attack on critical infrastructure, especially in the energy sector. We must quickly provide an air defense and speed up the delivery of all military support, including ammunition, writes Michel.
Zelenskyj asked the EU for help to strengthen the air defense when he addressed the EU summit. He began his speech by referring to a new attack by Russia against the city of Kharkiv on Wednesday, in which 17 people were killed.
– This happens every day, Zelenskyj said.
– Now the Russian army is experiencing strength in almost everything that concerns military components. And it is precisely because of this strength that Putin now hopes that he will succeed in his counter-offensive, he maintained.
Zelenskyj pointed out that Western allies helped Israel shoot down Iranian drones and missiles at the weekend.
– Here in Ukraine, unfortunately, we do not have the level of air defense that we all saw in the Middle East a few days ago. Ukraine’s airspace and the airspace of our neighbors deserve the same protection, Zelenskyy said.
