Sport: Hovland finished last year’s season brilliantly, but he has not been able to find his way back to the big game so far this year. After he missed the cut in the US Masters just under a month ago, he took a break to prioritize training.

Now he is back again on the PGA Tour. The tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina has a total prize money of 20 million dollars, and Hovland is in the top tier despite an uneven round.

After making a good birdie on the first hole, it was three holes on par before the next birdie came on the 5th hole. On the next hole, Hovland had to endure a bogey, but he immediately made up for it with a birdie on the 7th hole.

He had another bogey on the 9th hole and was one shot under par at the halfway point. Again he responded with a birdie straight after a bogey, but then he had to endure another bogey on the 11th hole.

After three holes on par, the fifth birdie of the day came on the 15th hole, and Hovland was two under again.

For the time being, this gives a shared 13th place. Xander Schauffele leads the tournament after completing a round of 64 (seven under par).

Hideki Matsuyama, with whom Hovland was to play on the first two days, also withdrew just before the start due to a sore back.
